Each competitor will fish from an identically rigged 2017 Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14.
Lowrance Fish Finder
Each competitor will fish from an identically rigged Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14. The boats will be rigged with a Lowrance Elite 5Ti fish finder with Totalscan transducer which allows anglers to navigate their surroundings, locate fish, find structure, determine water temperature and much more.
Each fish finder will be mounted to the boat with a RAM Mounts fish finder mount that will allow for adjustability and quick removal. The Hobie fish finder installation kit will power the fish finders and it includes a 12V battery and charger. Each competitor will be responsible for charging their fish finder battery at the end of the day.
On the stern of the boat you’ll find the Power-Pole Micro Anchor, a motorized anchoring system that will be a crucial tool to the angler’s success in this environment. The marshy bayous of Louisiana have both hard bottom and soft mud, and the Power-Pole Micro will allow anglers to anchor themselves in either situation. It will also be a big advantage if the wind picks up over the course of the event. The Power-Pole Micro Lithium Battery will be attached to the unit and will run the Micro Anchor for several days of fishing. Hobie’s Pro Angler Mount kit attaches the Power-Pole Micro Anchor and Spike to the stern of the boat.
The cargo area of the Pro Angler 14 (right behind the angler) is large to store plenty of gear, and each angler’s boat will have an H-Crate storage system mounted to organize their gear. Hobie rod extenders will be mounted in the molded-in rod holders which elevate rods and reels to keep them drier and further away from the water’s surface.
Anglers will have a choice to use a Point of View (POV) camera if they like to film their experience during the tournament. There will be a RAM Wedge Mount mounted in the sail mast of the cockpit just forward of the MirageDrive and an H-Rail RAM ball mounted to the H-Rail of the H-Crate, just behind the angler. The RAM camera mount can be attached to either location or the H-Rails along the gunnels of the boat and a GoPro mount as well as standard ¼-20 threaded mount will be provided for the user to attach their camera to. This gives the competitors the option of different locations and angles to capture video footage.
The centre hatch will have the pivoting tackle management system installed in it which presents two 3600 size tackle boxes (not included) to the angler when opening the lid. Tackle boxes will not be provided for competitors so each person will need to bring their own. Also in the cockpit area, a Hobie Fish Grip attached to a Hobie Gear Keeper will be provided and clipped to a padeye at all times. The Fish Grip will assist anglers in landing fish. The Gear Keeper keeps the Fish Grip clipped to the boat and the retractor allows for the tool to be used but not lost. Anglers are allowed to bring and use their own fish lip gripping device such as Boga grips. An Ego S2 Slider compact net will be provided for each angler to use during the event. This will be a great net for landing flounder, trout and small to medium sized redfish. The net will be available for sale to the anglers for $40 after the event.
A custom YakAttack measuring board will be used for scoring fish. YakAttack is known for their innovation of kayak fishing accessories and this board is specifically designed for use in the Hobie Fishing Worlds. Fish will be laid out on the measuring board along with the daily token and a picture is taken for submission of that fish.
Each angler will be wearing the Hobie inflatable PFD which is a lightweight chassis so the user barely feels that they are wearing a life jacket. This is a manual deploy PFD so the angler will pull a yellow tab on the bottom of the jacket if they need to use the floatation device.
Hobie Heavy Duty kayak carts will be used to transport the Pro Angler 14’s from the docking site to the water’s edge. There will be 15 of these carts on hand for competitors to share.
