My name is Finn Sloth.

Hobie Fishing Worlds 8 –

Finn Sloth is a 31-year-old serving member of the Denmark military, and a dedicated angler from Holstebro in the western part of Denmark. He has been a fisherman all of his life, and for the last 8 years, has fished exclusively from Hobie kayaks.

““I am the owner of High 5 Lures, where I produce handmade fishing lures for a variety of species. I love lure and fly fishing from my Hobie pro angler. I fish for almost every species in the waters around Denmark, but I mainly target the big Pike, Perch or Trout. I have been fortunate enough to land some nice monster fish from the Hobie, including a 22kg monster pike, and a 23+kg Yellowcheek at the Hobie Fishing Worlds 5 in China. Both definitely dreams come true”.

“I’m starting to feel a bit more experienced in the Hobie competition game, since I now have competed in quite a few, with a third place finish in Hobie Fishing Worlds 5 in China being my best result”.

Fish at the worlds at Shang Lake in China were extremely hard to come by, and unfortunately Sloth’s monster Yellowcheck Carp, over a metre in length, came in pre-fish and was not counted in the final calculations. If it had been, Denmark would have had their first Hobie Fishing World Champion. Unlike most competitors, through the championship days Sloth was still able to catch fish and his Top Mouth Culter on day three was enough to take out the third place on the podium.

In 2016 Sloth again represented Denmark at the Hobie Fishing World Championship (HFW6) this time in Louisiana in the USA. On day one of the world championship he caught a 38.1cm (15”) Trout but missed out on a Redfish. Day two was a similar story, this time his Trout measured up at 50.8cm (20”), and on day three he went hard looking for that Red that had eluded him. He caught his first legal Red at 63.5cm (25”), but this time missed out on a trout to back it up. His three-day total length of 152.4cm (60”) was enough to place him in 19th position in the world.

“More recently I placed third in the East Coast Kayak Challenge 2018. Also, in 2018, my buddy Dennis BomBom Skou (another Denmark representative in HFW8), competed in Predator Tour, Sweden, from a Hobie T17. We ended up in the top 20 out of more than 60 boats, which we are pretty proud of, since the field was mainly made up of big, fast powerboats”.

“2018 was also the year where I travelled to China to compete in China Open, which was truly an amazing experience, with a lot of fish caught, I really got the numbers, but lacked a little on the weight”.

“I am truly stoked about going to this year’s Hobie Fishing Worlds in Australia, and I am looking forward, to meeting up with a lot of fellow kayak fishing friends that I have already made from around the world, and making some new friends as well”.

“I have never been to Australia, and this has always been a dream of mine, and hopefully I can go there and cross Bream off my bucket list”.
